Former Real Madrid winger Angel di Maria has revealed that his move to Manchester United never felt right following an uneventful single season with the Red Devils.
The Argentine was chorused as a £59.7m flop and he was dumped on the bench by manager Louis van Gaal before he made a summer switch to Paris Saint-Germain in a £44.3m deal.
Di Maria says he never wanted to leave the Bernabeu but unexpected things force him away, however, he regrets his time at Old Trafford.
“My intention was always to stay [at Madrid]. I don’t really know what happened on the inside, these are things that representatives deal with. It happens in football,” the 27-year-old told Marca.
“I started very well [at United] but then I had problems with people at the club, I started being left on the bench, then my home was robbed. It all just made me want to get out of there as quickly as possible.
“My move to PSG could have happened before this summer but it didn’t for financial reasons and I ended up going to United. In the summer I had the chance to go there again and I could not say no.”
Di Maria scored only four goals for Manchester United in 32 appearances.
