Anthony Martial was the hero at Old Trafford as Manchester United defeated Swansea City by 2-1 but it was Captain Wayne Rooney that stole the headlines with his 188th goal to become the second top goalscorer in Premier League history.
The match was keenly contested by both sides that are noted for playing possession football. The away side had the first sniff of goal when Wayne Routledge fires a bobbling shot towards goal, but the Spaniard is down to make a relatively comfortable stop.
Manchester United best chance fell to Juan Mata but he failed to convert as the goalkeeper Lukasz Fabianski made a good save. The first half ended goalless which made it the ninth game in which Manchester United have failed to score in the first half in all competition.
However, it did not take long as Anthony Martial headed the Red Devils into a second half early lead when he connected an Ashley Young’s cross but the Walsh side leveled scores through Gylfi Sigurdsson.
At this point the stage was majestically set for Captain Wayne Rooney who finished off a brilliant move from Anthony Martial to score his first goal since October 2014 and his 188 th goal in the premier league to go clear second on the top goalscorer chat in Premier League history behind the legendary Alan Shearer who has 260 goals.
