Manchester United defeated Crystal Palace 2-0 at Old Trafford courtesy a brilliant goal by Matteo Darmian and an own goal from Damien Delaney.
The Red Devils raced into an early lead when Eagles centre-back Delaney somehow divert Matteo Darmian’s cross into his own net to make it 1-0. The fourth minute goal was the earliest Louis van Gaal’s men have scored in Old Trafford this season.
Palace defender Martian Kelly was booked for tugging back Anthony Martial. The French teenage was again involved as he curled a shot inside the far post, but Julian Speroni in goal for the away side turned it behind for a corner.
Captain Wayne Rooney was teed up on the edge of the box but his right foot shot was easily gathered by the keeper. The England Captain then provided an assist for youngster Marcus Rashford but his effort was easily saved.
Pape Ndiaye Souare picked up a yellow for a tackle that could easily have earned him a red as United dominated the first half.
The Red Devils started the second half like they ended the first – United’s Italian defender Matteo Darmian brightly finished from the edge of the box after Crystal Palace failed to clear from a corner to make it 2-0.
With the victory Manchester United moved within just a point of fourth placed Arsenal who play West Brom at the Emirates on Thursday.
