Anthony Martial scored a late goal to earn an FA Cup quarter final replay for Manchester United as they played out a 1-1 draw against West Ham United at Old Trafford.
The Hammers had a twin strike force of Andy Carrol and Nigerian Emmanuel Emenike and they combined to create the first real chance of the game as the Englishman played the former Super Eagles star on goal but he did not connect his shot perfectly as it went wide.
Emenike had another chance to give his side the lead but again failed to direct his effort past David de Gea in goal for the home side. Aaron Cresswell sent in a delightful cross which the striker met with a header but straight into the goalkeepers’ hands.
At the other end Anthony Martial and Marcus Rojo combined well to set up Ander Herrera but the Spaniard had his left foot shot go way wide. Martial and new kid on the block Marcus Rashford curved the Hammers backline open with a one-two but the Frenchman was ruled offside as the first half ended goalless.
The home side began the second half much better than the first as they dominated possession – Herrera had his shot saved by Darren Randolph in goal for the visitors and moments later saw his shot blocked by the left arm of defender Winston Reid inside the 18-yard box but the referee ignored his shout for a penalty.
United continued to pile up pressure as Rashford forced a save from the goalkeeper but West Ham scored against the run of play as their Player of the Season so far Dimitri Payet converted a freekick from 25yards out for the games opening goal.
The game seem to be heading for a famous win for Emmanuel Emenike and teammate but Martial pops up at the far post to turn in a tempting cross from Ander Herrera to level scores at 1-1 and send the game into a replay.
