Juan Mata was the hero for Manchester United at Old Trafford a his well taken freekick earned the Red Devils a deserved 1-0 win against Odion Ighalo’s Watford in the premier league match played this evening.
Manchester United began the night by naming their 4th youngest starting XI in Premier League history while Watford went with their most trusted front pairing of Captain Troy Deeney and best friend Odion Ighalo.
The returning Anthony Martial was thrown straight into the starting line-up with rave of the moment Marcus Rashford and Memphis Depay and it was the French teenager that had the first chance of the game but his shot hit the side netting.
Daley Blind was a bit careless at the back as he gifted possession straight to Ighalo but Watford frontman wasted the opportunity as he tried to catch De Gea out with an early strike, but the goalkeeper is alert and makes an easy save.
The lively Ighalo wriggles free of Rojo, turns and then shoots almost all in one motion. De Gea is helplessly rooted to the spot, but he’s granted a reprieve as the Nigerian fires just wide.
It was a show set for Ighalo and David de Gea as the Spaniard denied the Super Eagles forward twice in quick succession to end the first half goalless.
At the resumption of the second half Ighalo again was frustrated as he did everything right but score.
Manchester United star man Martial was fouled outside the box and Juan Mata stepped up and curled his freekick past Heurelho Gomes in goal for the Hornets for the only goal of the encounter and hand Louis van Gaal three straight wins in all competition.
