A Wayne Rooney penalty helped Manchester United qualify for the fourth round of the FA Cup but were made to work very hard for it by Sheffield United.
The first half was one of the most boring match in the history of the FA Cup as both teams failed to hit a shot on target. That made it the tenth time when the Red Devils have failed to score a first half goal at Old Trafford. Surprisingly, the first shot on target came from Sheffield’s substitute Flynn who drove forward and let’s fly, but his effort is easily gathered by De Gea.
Before that United had just two shots off target – a wayward shot from Captain Wayne Rooney and substitute Memphis Depay’s long range strike.
There was big worry for Manchester United as Bastian Schweinsteiger clashed with a defender and limped off the pitch but was soon back.
Anthony Martial nearly gave the home side the lead but his left foot shot was well blocked inside the box.
Memphis danced into the box in injury time and was fouled for a penalty and Rooney stepped up to score three minutes into stoppage time for a slim win.
