Pressure on Manchester United manager Louis van Gaal continues as he failed to lead the Red Devils to a victory against Chelsea at Old Trafford as both sides played out a goalless draw.
The Red Devils started like a house on fire as they hit the post twice inside the first 20 minutes. Former Chelsea star Juan Mata blasted a left foot shot from the edge of the box which hit the upright and went out for a goal kick.
The most expensive teenage in world football Anthony Martial then danced past Brainslav Ivanovic before beating Thibaut Courtois in goal but the woodwork again came to the rescue as the Blues survive.
At the other end, Chelsea nearly took the lead as Captain John Terry met a Willian corner with a ferocious header which David de Gea brilliant save to keep the scores goalless.
The first half drama continued as Manchester United Captain Wayne Rooney who was returning to the starting line-up fired in a 35yards right foot shot but it was met by an equal wonderful save by the Chelsea goalless.
Manchester United’s under-pressure Louis van Gaal would’ve been pleased with the display of his ward in the first half while Guus Hiddink obviously wanted more urgency from his side and both situation played itself out in the second half.
The Blues picked up pace and de Gea had to produce a double save to thwart Pedro and Cesar Azpilicueta inside the first three minutes of restart.
Chelsea had the chance to take the lead when a counter-attack allowed Pedro to pick out Matic striding forward, and the midfielder has all the time in the world pick his spot but he blazed well over the bar.
The tempo of the game dropped as both teams tired out and settled for a goalless draw.
