Premier League club Manchester City have congratulated Kelechi Iheanacho after he netted a beautiful goal to seal a win for Nigeria in an Africa Cup of Nations qualifier against Tanzania on Saturday.
The 19-year old played the entire duration for the Super Eagles as they emerged winners over their Tanzanian counterparts at the Godswill Akpabio Stadium in Uyo on Saturday evening in a dead-rubber game.
The Nigerian side had dominated play from the onset, but failed to score any of the multitude of chances they created, with Chelsea winger Victor Moses the biggest culprit as he spurned several chances to give the Eagles the lead.
With the domination yielding no dividend as full time gradually approached, Iheanacho received a pass off a short corner-kick from the right, sold a dummy to his marker as if he was going to cross, but pushed the ball further, beating his marker in the process and unleashing a 25-yard belter which landed in the roof of the net, much to the delight of the huge crowd at the stadium.
Reacting to the win, the former Premier League champions wrote on their twitter handle: “.@67Kelechi’s wonder strike gives @NGSuperEagles a 1-0 win over Tanzania 🇳🇬 Well done, Kelechi! #NGATAN #mcfc.”
The win however means very little or nothing as the Super Eagles have already failed to qualify for next year’s Africa Cup of Nations.
