Manchester City continued their perfect start under coach Pep Guardiola; winning their fifth successive game under the Spainard on Sunday.
Though it wasn’t a very commanding display, the Citizens did enough to beat West Ham 3-1 at the Etihad Stadium in the last installment of Premier league games for the weekend.
Raheem Sterling got the first goal in the week three clash before Fernadinho helped double the lead as the hosts took a 2-0 lead by the end of the first half.
While the expectations were that the hosts will add to their first half goals, it was not to be as the Hammers reduced the deficit before the hour-mark through Antonio.
Unfortunately for Slaven Billic’s men, they were unable to get the all-important equalizing goal.
It was the host instead that ensured that the point was safe with a late strike from Sterling again as the England international completed his brace.
While it was another loss for West Ham, it was yet another win from City who have now gone top with the strength of their superior goals difference.
While City will be keeping a firm look at how the EPL is panning out, they equally know their hands are full in the UEFA Champions league where they have been pitched against Barcelona in the Group phase.
Up next for City is the Manchester derby away at Old Trafford against Jose Mourinho’s Manchester United on September 10, while West Ham will host Watford on the same afternoon.
