Mali coach Alain Giresse has made public a 23-man squad ahead of Les Aigles’ friendly game against the Super Eagles of Nigeria in Rouen, France on May 27.
The Mali national team who are also scheduled to face South Sudan in a decisive Group C Gabon 2017 Africa Cup of Nations qualifier on June 3 have invited some new faces to play the friendly against three-time African champions, Nigeria
As reported on Afrik-Foot some of the Mali stars that would miss the Eagles friendly included; tYoussouf Kone (defender), Toulouse’s Tongo Doumbia (midfielder), Nantes’ Birama Toure (midfielder) Udinese’s Molla Wague (defender), Lille’s and Guingamp’s Sambou Yatabare (striker) who have all been ruled out of the clash for varying reasons.
Regardless of the high profile absentees, Girese has drawn up a roster of 20 foreign-based and three domestic league players for the friendly.
The French Coach did not give reasons for leaving the established players out of the encounter, it was learnt that some of them pleaded with him to leave them out to enable them to take a rest after a busy season in Europe.
