The Zambian national team Chipolopolo head coach George Lwandamina has stated that he is focusing more on their upcoming 2018 World Cup qualifiers ahead of the game against Kenya’s Harambee Stars in the 2017 African Cup of Nations (AFCON) qualifying match on Sunday 4 September at the Levy Mwanawasa Stadium.
The team has no chance of qualifying for the 2017 AFCON tournament but the coach is looking to reap maximum benefits from the game, with the view of getting the team prepared for the qualifiers.
Speaking ahead of the game, he told a pool of journalists that he will not be focusing on Kenya but his team even though he admitted Kenya will provide a tough opponent for them in the game.
“This match is still important to us because we have World Cup qualifiers coming and we will want to have a good team there. With this match I will be looking to gauge my players and their readiness for the World Cup qualifiers,” he said.
“We are not focusing on Kenya at all; we have our team to prepare and I trust in their abilities. That is what I will be looking at ahead of the game and I know it will be hard because Kenya is a good team and have been doing well,” he said.
