Super Eagles midfielder Ogenyi Onazi has declared his readiness to help Nigeria boost her FIFA ranking ahead of the international friendly match against Luxembourg this evening.
The three-time African champions are currently rated 67th in the world and 12th in Africa which is a far cry from the team that ranked fifth in the world in 1994 and voted the second most entertaining team after Brazil in the same year.
“We want to let everyone know that as national team players we take all matches important because the friendly matches count in FIFA ranking apart from that we want to have that spirit of winning,” Onazi said.
“The team is filled with too much talent. They (NFF) should allow one coach take the team for a year and blend everybody so we can know our self – not today new coach tomorrow another new coach, we need consistence.”
The 23-year-old who was elected to skipper the side by caretaker manager Salisu Yusuf in the absence of Mikel Obi and Ahmed Musa who were excused by the Nigerian Football Federation (NFF) for the Joseph Yobo testimonial, expressed huge pride at the privilege of captaining the national team.
“It was really a big privilege to have captained the Super Eagles all thanks to almighty God,” he revealed.
Onazi is set to Captain the team for a second consecutive match as Musa and Mikel remain unavailable for the encounter against Luxembourg.
