The Kenya Under-17 team started the 2016 COSAFA Under-17 Championship on a wrong footing, with a 0 – 4 loss to holders Zambia in a Group B match played at St. Francois Xavier Stadium in Port Louis, Mauritius on Friday 22 July.
Nicholas Mulilo was the star man for the defending champions as he grabbed a quick brace with goals in the fourth and 13th minutes before Damiano Kola and Kunda Nkandu scored in the 37th and 43rd minutes to complete a first half rout.
Zambia was the dominant side in the game and the score line said as much, with the Kenyan side, getting its first taste of international football struggling to cope with Mulilo who ran the rings for the Zambians.
Mulilo, though the star of the day, has many big misses while Kola had a goal ruled offside on the 23rd minute and at the half hour mark, Mulilo had his effort saved by Ouma.
Mulilo should have scored a third on the 86th minute but his shot went wide when he had just the keeper to beat.
Mulilo was named the Man of the Match after the game.
