Leon Balogun is excited to return to the Nigeria team and help them keep a clean sheet in their 1-0 win over Mali in an international friendly on Friday.
Kelechi Iheanacho’s 77th minute goal was enough for Nigeria to scrape past their Malian counterparts and Balogun, who was returning to the team after missing their last games through injury, couldn’t hide his excitement after the game.
“Happy to celebrate my comeback to #Supereagles with a win and a clean sheet!!” the central defender tweeted.
The Mainz 05 of Germany defender started at the heart of the Nigeria defence and played all 90 minutes as the Super Eagles saw off the Malian Eagles in Rouen, France.
There was not much to cheer between the two teams in the first half of the encounter even though debutant Musa Mohammed and Watford striker Odion Ighalo had decent chances to break the deadlock.
The Eagles of Mali also had their fair moments in the first period but both teams fired blanks in the first half.
With a flury of chances in the second half, the Eagles pressed for a winner and a cool finish by Iheanacho saved the day for the three-time African champions who will now face Luxembourg in their next game in four days.
