Super Eagles defender Leon Balogun has declared that he was so happy to secure a derby victory over his former club in the Bundesliga.
Now with Mainz 05, Balogun played some part in the Friday night’ 2-3win over his former club, Darmstadt and while confessing that it was somewhat strange playing against his former teammates he was quick to add that it was a welcomed victory.
Though Balogun who will be hitting the Eagles camp in Belgium was roundly booed by fans, their actions failed to dampen the spirit of the Nigerian international who took to Twitter to voice his sentiments about the game and his former club.
“Etwas glücklich, aber verdient die 3 Punkte entführt – stark Männer!! #D98M05 #Auswärtssieg #ZuGastBeiFreunden #LB.
“Etwas kosmisch war es trotzdem auf der anderen Seite zu stehen! Wünsche meinen Freunden vom @sv98 weiterhin alles Gute für die Saison!,” he tweeted in German which literally translates thus: “I am so happy, as we deserved to claim the three points – solid performance from the lads!! # # D98M05 away win #ZuGastBeiFreunden #lb
“It felt strange standing on the other side (and playing against Darmstadt! I wish my friends @ SV98 (Darmstadt) all the best for the season!,” he wrote via @LeonBalogun.
The 27-year-old has now made seven Bundesliga appearances for Mainz this season.
