Riyad Mahrez has been distracted with reported interests from Arsenal, so says Leicester City manager Claudio Ranieri.
The Algerian has been constantly linked with the Gunners all summer and while he remains a Leicester City player, Ranieri is concerned that the constant link with Arsenal has gotten him unsettled.
“Maybe Riyad is distracted a bit by all of these rumours and speculation,” Ranieri said at a press conference.
”But that is also an experience for my players. It is important that he understands that he should stay with us.
“He has to improve his fitness and play for the team as well last season.”
The Foxes have already lost one of their top performers from last season N’Golo Kante to Chelsea, while Jamie Vardy had to turn down a move to Arsenal after the Gunners triggered his release clause.
And it is Mahrez that Arsene Wenger is now reportedly eyeing, with the start of the new Premier League season just over a week away.
The 25-year old Algerian was a star of Leicester’s title winning season last term as he scored 17 goals and made 11 assists, and emerging as the PFA player of the year at the end of the season.
While Leicester still have him contracted until the summer of 2019, they will however be concerned that the player may not be able to refuse an offer from Arsenal if it is made.
