The fairy tales run of Leicester City in the Premier League continued on Sunday as the Foxes secured a 1-0 win over Southampton at the King Power Stadium.
Sunday’s win means Claudio Raneri’s men are now seven points clear at the top and have also moved to within four wins of claim a historic Premier League title.
It was Captain Wes Morgan that got what proved to be the winning goal late in the first half for the Foxes as they recorded a fourth-straight 1-0 victory and thus widen the gap between them and second-placed Tottenham Hotspur who played a 1-1 draw away to Liverpool on Saturday.
Skipper Morgan got the solitary goal in Sunday’s game when he connected with an inch-perfect cross from Fuchs and steering his header in off the post past a statuesque Fraser Forster.
A second goal very nearly arrived just past the hour mark when Fonte’s attempted interception from a Danny Drinkwater cross saw him loop the ball over his own goalkeeper, but Forster reacted to bat it away from underneath his own crossbar.
Though the Foxes initially pressed for a second goal, they switched to defensive mode to protect their priceless goal and succeeded despite the added five minutes of action.
With the latest points addition, the Foxes now lead Spurs by seven points and Arsenal by 11 heading into their final six games of the season, while Southampton remain four points adrift of fifth-placed West Ham United.
