It was goalless between last season’s first and second teams in the premier league as Leicester City and Arsenal failed to score in the first meeting in the 2016/17 campaign.
Lauren Koscielny returned from his extended break after the Euro 2016 to start his first game this season while Santi Cazorla and Granit Xhaka are handed his first start alongside Francis Coquelin in midfield who will have a key role to play this evening no doubt. Theo Walcott, Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain and Alexis Sanchez.
Luis Hernandez, Ahmed Musa and Demarai Gray were dropped and in their place came Marc Albrighton, Shinji Okazaki and Mendy as Claudio Ranieri chase their first home win.
Francis Coquelin picked up an early yellow but it was the Gunners that created the first real opportunity in the game when Oxlade-Chamberlain works out space at the edge of the box but curls his effort narrowly wide.
Kasper Schmeichel was called to make two important saves as he plucked away Alexis Sanchez shot befor saving an attempt from Santi Cazorla.
At the other end Leicester City had an appeal for a penalty waved away by referee Mark Clattenburg as he saw nothing wrong with the challenge on Daniel Drinwater inside the Arsenal box.
The half ended with new signing Nampalys Mendy picking a yellow card for a rash challenge on France defender Koscielny.
Andy King came on for Mendy and it swing it the game in favoue of the home side as they created openings – current premier league player of the year Riyad Mahrez hit a freekick narrowly wide.
Vardy had some half chances but failed to put any way as the game remained goalless. Arsenal also tested Schmeichel with no real danger.
However, the biggest threat in the second half came from Nigerian substitute, Ahmed Musa.
The former CSKA Moscow star had a claim for a penalty when he was brought down inside the penalty box but Clattenburg again failed to point to the spot. That infuriated the fans but the referee stood by his decision.
Leicester City had a late freekick at the edge of the box but Drinkwater hit it straight at the wall as it ended goalless.
