Kenyan international McDonald Mariga has extended his stay with Italian Serie B side US Latina Calcio ahead of the 2016/17 season.
Mariga’s initial six month deal ran out in June 2016, making him a free agent and two other second tier sides, AC Pisa and US Salernitana had expressed interest in signing the defensive midfielder.
US Latina, through its official portal confirmed that the midfielder, elder brother to Tottenham Hotspurs midfielder Victor Wanyama, has agreed to a new one year deal that will keep him at the team until June 2017.
“The US Latina Calcio announces that it has reached an agreement with MacDonald Mariga. The midfielder, born in 1987 will remain with the Nerazzurri after signing a contract which expires on June 30, 2017.” The site reported.
Mariga has previously featured for Internazionale and Parma between 2010 and 2014 with a short loan spell at Spanish side Real Sociedad. While at Inter Milan, he won four cups namely the UEFA Champions League, FIFA Club World Cup, Coppa Italia and the Supercoppa Italiana, all in 2010.
