For the eighth year in a row, SuperSport and MultiChoice have announced a Kshs 1.5m boost for 2015 Safaricom Sports Personality of the Year Awards (SOYA) in sponsorship.
The deal will see organizers for the gala night receive Sh1.5 million in cash as revealed in the cheque presentation.
Speaking during the presentation in Nairobi, the SuperSport East Africa General Manager Auka Gecheo reassured the event organizers of the commitment to promote sports in the country and throughout the continent.
“Over the years, MultiChoice has actively identified, invested in and supported the development of sports initiatives into marketable sports propositions. We have cumulatively invested upto $24.3 Million USD in local content production and licenses – and continue to give as much as possible to promote the local sports sector,” Auka added.
Former World marathon record holder, Paul Tergat stated that the sponsorship boost was timely for both parties.
“As SOYA celebrates its 12th edition this year, we continue to appreciate the partnership with SuperSport and MultiChoice, and greatly appreciate their contribution to the local sports talent. DStv & GOtv through their various partnerships with local leagues has greatly contributed to the promotion of Kenya’s sports personalities, especially the youth at both the national and global arena,” he stated.
