The Kenyan Premier League (KPL) resumed for the second round in earnest with a total eight matches lined up on the weekend of Saturday 2 – Sunday 3 July across the nation.
In the Saturday clashes, a standout result was the loss handed to league giants AFC Leopards, who fell by a goal to bogey team Chemelil Sugar FC at the Moi Stadium, Kisumu, with former AFC Leopards midfielder Hillary Echesa getting the lone goal.
In Nairobi, at the Nyayo National Stadium, Mathare United completed a double over Ulinzi Stars with a 1 – 0 win served by Whyvonne Isuza’s 11th minute goal. The result saw Mathare United go top of the standings, at least until Tusker FC takes to the pitch.
In another match at the same venue, Ushuru FC managed a 2 – 1 win over Sony Sugar. Rodgers Ochieng netted with a free kick before Kennedy Oduor doubled matters but on the stroke of half time Amos Asembeka halved the score from the penalty spot.
At the Kenyatta Stadium in Machakos, Sofapaka’s woes into the season continued as Western Stima managed a double over the 2009 champions with a 2 – 1 win. Kenneth Muguna and Fred Shimonyo scored for Stima before Noah Abich netted a late consolation.
The other two matches on the day ended in draws; City Stars playing to a 1 – 1 draw with visiting Muhoroni Youth at the Moi International Sports Center (MISC) Kasarani while Kakamega Homeboyz and Bandari FC played to a barren draw in Mumias.
The league action continues on Sunday.
