Tusker FC and Ulinzi Stars sailed through to the KPL Top 8 semi finals after wins on the opening round of the 2016 edition in matches staged at the Nyayo National Stadium on Sunday 1 May.
Tusker FC, two – time winners in the competition were the first to the pitch, taking on Bandari and it was the Mombasa side who drew first blood with a goal courtesy of Edwin Lavatsa.
However, Tusker FC pulled one back through Humphrey Mieno with an easy tap in to see the tie head to the break level at 1 – 1. Mieno completed the job with a simple header in the second half to dump out the Dockers.
In the second match, AFC Leopards and Ulinzi Stars renewed rivalry just eight days after a premier league clash involving the two teams aborted due to crowd trouble.
It was Ulinzi Stars who started strongly and got a goal for it with John Mark Makwatta scoring early to give Leopards the lead going to the break.
AFC Leopards resumed much stronger and a brace from Cliff Miheso turned the match in favor of Ingwe before Makwatta struck again and Enos Ochieng wrapped it up for a 3 – 2 win.
The last two matches will be staged at the Nyayo National Stadium on Monday 2 May with Sofapaka taking on Muhoroni Youth before Gor Mahia squares it out with Ushuru FC.
