The Kenyan Premier League (KPL) round of 24 matches came to a close on Sunday 11 September in intriguing fashion with the league leaders Tusker FC failing to restore the seven point lead over their closest challengers Gor Mahia.
The Brewers needed to claw their way back from a losing position after falling behind through Ushuru FC’s Ebrima Sanneh’s penalty but Allan Wanga scored soon after to see the tie end 1 – 1.
In the earlier match staged at the Nyayo National Stadium, Western Stima rose to third place on the log courtesy of a scrappy 1 – 0 win over Nairobi City Stars. Long serving forward Wesley Kemboi got the only goal of the game on the 19th minute.
Stima took advantage of Mathare United’s slump with the Slum Boyz going 1 – 2 down to Sony Sugar in Awendo to cede ground on their title ambitions. Amos Asembeka and Masoud Juma scored the goals for the hosts to nullify Whyvonne Isuza’s late consolation.
Back in Nairobi, Posta Rangers needed a lone goal from Timothy Otieno to overcome Thika United who still have relegation fears hanging around their fate in the top flight.
In Nakuru, Ulinzi Stars came from behind to beat Sofapaka 3 – 1 and ensured the 2009 champions stay in the relegation zone.
