The Kenyan Premier League (KPL) continued on Saturday 9 April with four matches on the cards on the first day of the Week Eight action. A highlight of the day was the Cats Derby; AFC Leopards taking on Sofapaka at the Nyayo National Stadium.
Leopards, coming from a loss to City Stars, their first of the season, had a false in the match as Sofapaka started the game and Brian Nyakan raced through to open the scoring on just the 49th second of the match.
Leopards recovered well and their top striker Kepha Aswani netted the leveler after ten minutes. Simon Abuko would then complete the rout in the second half, pouncing on a ball that goalkeeper Barnabas Tiema failed to clear.
The 2 – 1 win for Ingwe ensured they stay in touch with the leading pack.
In other results, title contenders Tusker FC also rose from a goal down after Wesley Kemboi scored for Western Stima, to beat the Kakamega side 2 – 1. Eugene Asike netted the leveler before Mike Khamati rose from the bench to win it for the Brewers.
Close by, at the Mumias Sports Complex, Kakamega Homeboyz returned to winning ways, beating the visiting Nairobi City Stars 1 – 0. Andrew Murunga was handed a rare appearance and repaid the faith with a 76th minute goal.
Back in Nairobi, Mathare United notched another win to continue with their momentum after a good start. The Slum Boys beat the visiting Sony Sugar 1 – 0 courtesy of substitute Derrick Onyango’s 88th minute goal from Harrison Mwendwa’s cutback.
The league continues on Sunday.
