The reigning Kenyan Premier League (KPL) champions Gor Mahia’s quest for a fourth straight title took a massive blow on Sunday 25 September as they were held by their hosts, bottom placed Sofapaka to a barren draw at the Nyayo National Stadium.
Gor Mahia were as expected the dominant side in the game but an inspired performance from Sofapaka’s Ugandan goalkeeper Mathias Kigonya saw the champions denied from point blank at least six times.
The result meant Gor Mahia fell four points behing Tusker in the title run with just five matches remaining.
Meanwhile, in Thika, visitors Sony Sugar played to a 1 – 1 draw with their hosts Thika United. Victor Ademba scored the opener for Sony Sugar but Saad Musa leveled matters to see the home side pick a point.
The other match of the day saw Posta Rangers play to a barren draw with Mathare United at the Nyayo National Stadium.
