Kenyan Premier League (KPL) champions Gor Mahia had the chance to close in on league leaders Tusker after playing to a barren draw with Posta Rangers in the Sunday league match staged at the Nyayo National Stadium.
Tusker had on Saturday played to a 1 – 1 draw with Western Stima and Gor Mahia had the chance to close the gap between them and the leaders to two points but instead the four point gap remains, making the title race tighter with eight matches to go.
While Gor Mahia struggled, Mathare United condemned Nairobi City Stars to yet another loss. The Slum Boys beat the Kawangware side 1 – 0 courtesy of a Robinson Kamura goal.
The result saw Mathare United register only their second win of the second leg while it left City Stars languishing at the bottom of the KPL log.
In the other match played on the day, Kakamega Homeboyz spanked AFC Leopards 4 – 1 at the Mumias Sports Complex to bring to an end the fine run that the team has had in the recent times.
Andrew Kulecho, Andrew Murunga and Sunday Mutuku fired the hosts to a 3 – 0 lead in the first 30 minutes before Kepha Aswani pulled one back but Eugene Ambulwa scored an own goal to make it worse for Leopards, who dropped tenth on the league standings as Homeboyz rose to fourth.
