Nairobi City Stars got a shot in the arm as far as their push for survival is concerned, with a 3 – 1 win away to Bandari FC at the Mbaraki Sports Club on the second day of the 25th week of action in the Kenyan Premier League (KPL).
The win, catalyzed by goals from Ugandan Jimmy Bageya, Oliver Maloba and Benson Ireri, canceling out Darius Mnyambo’s strike, ensured the team rises from the bottom of the log to 15th place.
Out in Kakamega County, at the Mumias Sports Complex, hosts Kakamega Homeboyz needed a last minute goal from Steven Wakhanya to save them from the jaws of defeat by Ushuru FC who had taken the lead on 70 minutes courtesy of Ebrima Sanneh, the match ending 1 – 1.
In Awasi, Kisumu County, Chemelil Sugar earned a measure of revenge over Ulinzi Stars, beating the four time league champions 1 – 0 courtesy of a late Jared Obwoge goal. The win was a big blow to Ulinzi Stars’ title charge.
The last of the day’s matches saw Western Stima pick a routine win over AFC Leopards with Wesley Kemboi scoring the only goal in a 1 – 0 win at the Nyayo National Stadium that saw the Kakamega side complete a double over the KPL giants.
Three matches are lined up for Sunday 25 September to wrap up the weekend matches.
