Chemelil Sugar FC’s rise in the Kenyan Premier League (KPL) continued on Saturday 20 August as the Awasi based team made full use of their home advantage to beat Sony Sugar in the Millers’ Derby, staged at the Chemelil Sports Complex.
The match was heading to a barren draw until Ugandan midfielder Victor Majid stepped up to score the only goal of the game late on and in the process see his team rise to fourth place on the log, strengthening their quest for a top five place.
In the other match played on the day, Mathare United boosted their title ambitions with a 3 – 1 win over relegation threatened Ushuru FC at the Nyayo National Stadium.
The win, a second straight for the 2008 KPL champions, came courtesy of goals from Whyvonne Isuza, who netted a brace and Harrison Mwendwa who killed it with a 59th minute goal after Liberian national Roosevelt Blaty had pulled on back for the visitors.
The league action continues on Sunday 21 August with four other matches lined up.
