Liverpool manager Jurgen Klopp has revealed his excitement at his side’s impressive 3-0 win over Manchester City in the Premier League on Wednesday, following their Capital One Cup final loss to the same opposition on Sunday.
The former Borussia Dortmund boss revealed his pride at his players’ commitment and dedication in showing a real desire even though they had less at stake than their opponents, and he said:
“This was about the mental thing, we had to show a reaction. The boys did brilliant, they were very angry in a positive way,” he explained.
“If you score goals it makes life easier and we did that. I am too old to think from now on we will play like this all the time but it was a really important sign for us and they saw what is possible.”
Klopp now wants his side to use this performance and push on to put pressure on City and United in fourth spot in the league, and to also produce their form in Europe.
“The target for the league is simple: take whatever you can get!” he said.
“It’s the most important time of the season, everything before is the starting point every point we have is only the starting point.
“Now we have to stay angry, strike back in every game, and show that fight in the two competitions we have left.
“We have Manchester United in the Europa League, and that is really exciting with two teams in good form.”
