Kiongera, who played in the second half of the Kenyan Premier League (KPL) season in 2015 on loan from Tanzanian giants Simba, had a great recovery from injury to play a key role in the team, finishing among the league’s best scorers though the team suffered relegation.
He has been nominated for the comeback of the year award after showing resilience, coming back from a nasty knee injury in just about five months and went on to score 11 goals in 17 matches.
He said he is grateful for the nomination, saying it is a recognition of his performance as a footballer and a good motivation for him to work harder.
“I am obviously happy to be among the nominees. This is a great vote of confidence in my performance and I am grateful. It is also a big motivation for me and a reason to work harder for better tidings,” he said.
Kiongera will be contesting for the award alongside rugby player, Lawrence Buyachi.
