Mathare United Head Coach Francis Kimanzi has been named the February Sports Journalists Association of Kenya (SJAK) Fidelity Insurance Coach of the Month.
Kimanzi, a former Sofapaka, Tusker and Harambee Stars tactician beat competition from Muhoroni Youth coach James Omondi and Zedekiah Otieno of Posta Rangers to claim the award.
He polled 21 points from the votes cast by the SJAK Football Committee while Omondi got 17 as Otieno came third with 16 points and for the win, he took home a cheque of Kshs. 50000 and a personalized trophy.
Speaking after being presented with the award at the club’s training base the coach was thankful to SJAK and his players.
“It’s a surprise to me and to the team. The season has just started and getting something of this sort ushers in a new beginning. We had a good preseason gauging our fitness levels and so far the players have displayed the same in all the games,
“I thank SJAK and my team for the award. The players have done their job and the bench too. I have an able bench which is doing a good job, Kimanzi is just there to bring in the tactical aspect but we have fatherly figures in the team and that’s working for us,” he said.
