Former Mathare United midfielder Francis Kimanzi is back at the team as the head coach after a previous stint that saw him lead the team to the 2008 Kenyan Premier League (KPL) title.
Kimanzi had a troubled second year at Tusker in 2015 as the team struggled and he was sacked towards the end of the season but was on Monday 14 December unveiled as the new Mathare United coach.
He will be deputized by Salim Ali who replaced him at Mathare United after his departure following the title winning run in 2008. Kimanzi, speaking after the unveiling said he was happy to be back and hopes to restore the team’s former pride.
“I am happy to be back; it is easier working here because there is a system I know of but of course the pressure will always be there.
“My key role is to restore the team’s status in Kenyan football and I hope we succeed,” he said.
Kimanzi has previously coached the Kenya national team on two stints, as well as Sofapaka while Salim has previously been the head coach at Mathare United, Sofapaka and Ulinzi Stars.
