Former Kaizer Chiefs assistant coach Farouk Khan, is often a presenter on SuperSport’s television station. He’s come out and criticised South Africa’s CHAN squad.
Even though he believes Bongani Ndulula can get a second chance to build his fitness and show what he can do, Khan has expressed his shock of the Kaizer Chiefs forward’s selection in the 27-man squad.
South Africa play a Chan 2016 qualifier against Angola on Saturday.
“You’re telling me he is selected for the national team and he does not even make the bench for his club?” Khan asked Goal.com
“Ndulula, if you didn’t remind me he is playing for Chiefs, I would’ve forgotten because he has been on the bench for as long as I can remember and in that department (striking) Chiefs is struggling a little. But maybe they’ve decided he’s not ready yet, so maybe this tournament could turn things around (for him), you never know,” said Khan.
Of course many players are not available for various reasons such as fatigue in Caf competitions at club level and for AFCON qualifiers or international friendlies for the full Bafana Bafana team.
“With clubs not obligated to release their players it has been a problem for the national team for quite a while. In that period the league is going to be in full swing, and with this tournament not falling under the international calendar, clubs are not obligated to release their best players,” said Khan.
