The Kenya U17 national team had a faulty start to their qualifying campaign of the 2017 African Youth Championships, losing 7 – 0 to home side Cameroon U17 in the match played in Limbe on Sunday 7 August.
Cameroon were the dominant side as reflected in the scoreline and in a one sided encounter Moise Sakava opened the scores on the 19th minute before Stephen Zobo added the second just a minute later.
From there it was a free fall for Kenya U17 as Rosin Christian Bella made it 3-0 on the 34th minute with Landry Abasello making it 4-0 five minutes later and Fabrice Ndjio ensured the home team goes to the breather with a huge 5-0 advantage.
Captain Ndjio made it 6-0 in the 50th minute with Bella completing his brace in the 67th minute. Kenya missed a late spot kick.
Kenya will be hoping to overturn the defeat when Cameroon visits Nairobi for the return leg in two weeks time. At the end of the qualification phase, seven teams will join the hosts Madagascar for the 2017 AFCON U17 to be held from 2-16 April 2017 with the semifinalists of the tournament qualifying for the 2017 FIFA-U17 World Cup in India.
