The Kenya national U20 team’s friendly match against Sudan U20 that should have gone down on Sunday 29 May at the Moi International Sports Center (MISC) Kasarani has been canceled.
The match was scheduled to work as a curtain raiser to the Kenya versus Tanzania senior teams’ clash but the Football Kenya Federation (FKF) has confirmed Sudan decided to pull out.
FKF CEO Robert Muthomi described it as a sad turn but reiterated the federation’s commitment to improving youth football.
“It is sad that despite getting approval from FIFA for the match, Sudan has decided to pull out of the match under unclear circumstances,
“This notwithstanding FKF remains committed to youth development and will continue to not only organize meaningful friendlies for the junior national teams but also ensure that they take part in both regional and international tournaments,” he said.
He however called on fans to turn up in numbers and cheer the national team when it hosts Tanzania on Sunday.
“Back home, we urge our fans, as disappointing as it may be, to now focus on the Kenya versus Tanzania and Kenya versus Sudan matches which remain as earlier scheduled, this even as we engage the Sudanese FA on the untimely cancellation of the match, with an intention of ensuring that such an action is not replicated in the future,” he concluded.
