Former African footballer of the Year Nwankwo Kanu has backed Flying Eagles Captain Kelechi Nwakali to succeed at the Emirates with Arsenal.
The 18-year-old is believed to have penned a five-year deal with the Arsene Wenger led side but will only join up with the team in August but the move hasn’t been officially confirmed by the club.
However, Nwakali has been pictured with Wenger to clear any doubts of the deal not coming to lights and Kanu who enjoyed a glorious career with the North London side has backed his compatriot to flourish when he eventually begins life as a Gunner.
“He is going to Arsenal at such a young age which means he could stay there longer than I did and develop properly, above all he could win more laurels than I did during my time at Arsenal,” Kanu told OwngoalNigeria.
“I have high hopes on him succeeding at Arsenal, he is so talented for his age and he has a very good sense of listening, he will succeed at Arsenal, I have no doubt about that in my heart.”
Nwakali who is currently with the Nigerian Under-20 side was voted the player of the tournament at the last Under-17 World Cup in 2015 as he led Nigeria to the title.
