Nigerian legend Nwankwo Kanu is in Kenya for a three day tour as the StarTimes brand ambassador and has also been trying to promote youth football in the country and across the East Africa region.
On Saturday 2 April, the former Arsenal forward presided over a media open day at the Moi International Sports Center (MISC) Kasarani and in his address afterwards, challenged the Football Kenya Federation (FKF) to play the lead role in development of football.
He said the country has a good future in football only if the federation can invest in good plans for the youth.
“We have to find a way to ensure that the federations are working in the right way, because federations are key to development of football in Africa. So if the important people do not do what they are supposed to then it is wrong, he said.
“I have watched some matches and I believe when you talk in terms of future, future are the young ones. Every country has future so you don’t have to say there is no future. Future is what mechanism you put up. I believe the way you are going there is hope,” he said.
