The CECAFA Secretariat has confirmed, through Secretary General Nicholas Musonye, that the 2016 CECAFA Kagame Cup, the tournament which brings together league winners in the region, will not be hosted in Tanzania.
In a communique to journalists, Musonye stated that the Tanzanian Football Federation (TFF) has made it clear the unwillingness to host the tournament after hosting in in 2015 and he stated that the secretariat is in the process of seeking a new host.
Musonye stated that a new host will be communicated in the near future while calling on teams scheduled to take part to continue with preparations.
He further stated that the Nile Basin Cup tournament that was initially scheduled for May will now be played in September.
To all concerned parties especially the sports journalists. Kindly note that we are in receipt of a communication from the Tanzanian Football Federation (TFF) expressing their unwillingness to host this year’s CECAFA KAGAME Cup.
The CECAFA secretariat headed by Secretary General Nicholas Musonye is however working tirelessly to secure another host within the shortest time possible. The expected participants are therefore advised to embark on their technical preps ahead of kick off in July. The exact dates will be communicated in due course.
Meanwhile the CECAFA Nile Basin Cup that had earlier been scheduled for May this year has now been pushed to September. Sudan remains the potential hosts of the tournament.
