It was great scenes at Stamford Bridge earlier today when Chelsea and Manchester United battled to a 1-1 draw in a premier league fixture as Blues fans applauded Spanish midfielder Juan Mata who left the club for the Red Devils in January 2014.
The West Londoners gave the former Valencia man a special reception as he was replaced by Ander Herrera in stoppage time.
Speaking on Sky Sports after the game, Mata said: “It was special. I’m always grateful. “I spent two and a half great years here and they were amazing for me since the first day.
“It’s always special to play here and I really appreciate it. I’m really grateful.”
Jesse Lingard put the Red Devils in front and when it seemed that they were going to walk away with their second victory in eleven games at Stamford Bridge, Diego Costa struck inside the six minutes added time to secure a deserved draw for the host.
Mata voted Man-of-the-Match was Chelsea’s Player of the Season in two consecutive seasons but was sold by sacked manager Jose Mourinho.
