The Ghanaian scored from the spot as his struggling Villa team drew 1-1 against West Ham on Saturday.
West Ham manager Slaven Bilic was frustrated with the decision to award Ayew a penalty, because he felt Villa didn’t have the swing of the decisions on their side. Referee Mike Dean saw Rudy Gestede go down by an Angelo Ogbonna challenge for that penalty.
Bilic felt West Ham should have had two penalties for handballs against Leandro Bacuna and Ashley Westwood.
“I’m West Ham manager and I’m not objective, but I’m trying to be,” said Bilic after the game.
“When it happened I saw Ogbonna in front of Gestede and Gestede came in front not because he was quicker, but because he pulled his shirt. It was long enough for the referee to notice.
