The Nigeria female U-17 team, the Flamingoes have their backs against the wall as they step out for their final group game at the ongoing FIFA U-17 Women’s World Cup against Korea DPR.
Ranked bottom in Group C with just a point from two games, the Nigerian Ladies must beat their Korean DPR counterparts to stand any chance of pulling through to the next phase of the cadet Women’s World Cup.
Flamingoes Coach Bala Nikyu remains an incurable optimist as he submits that his girls will deliver against the current table toppers at the Amman International Stadium, Amman.
“We simply mustn’t go out in the group stages. If you look at our squad and the quality of our players, it’s clear that we have to reach the quarter-finals. We came here with the aim of improving on our performance in Costa Rica two years ago and that has not changed.” the Nigeria Coach stated.
On his part, Flamingoes Captain, Rasheedat Ajibade admits that she and her teammates must get their scoring boots on against the high-flying Korea DPR Ladies.
“In the next game, we need to work on finishing our chances,” reflected the Flamingoes’ No10 on her side’s lacking the necessary attacking punch. “We’ve not managed to score in two games. Obviously that has to change.”
Ajibade will be hopeful and confident that she and her team will be “ready to rumble”.
