The best foreign player in Israel, Nigeria’s John Ogu will today resume pre-season training with his club Hapoel Beer Sheva for the 2016/17 campaign.
The 28-year-old left the shores of Nigeria yesterday with teammate Tony Nwakaeme who also had an outstanding season last term as they both helped the club win the Israeli league title ahead of their more illustrious rivals Maccabi Tel Aviv.
Ogu last played for Nigeria during the qualifiers for the 2017 AFCON as the Super Eagles romped to a 2-0 win over Chad in Kaduna and believes that the team has enough quality to play at the 2018 World Cup.
“When we get together we need to understand that this is a country of 150 million people where everybody loves football,” he was quoted as saying by FCNaija.com.
“But we have good players, quality players and it is just building the team together and I believe with time we will get there.”
Beer Sheva will be involved in the second qualifying round of the UEFA Champions League alongside 33 other teams which will be played on 12/13 and 19/20 of July.
The draws for the 2016/17 UEFA Champions League first and second qualifying rounds will also hold today as the road to Cardiff begins.
