Former Thika United and Posta Rangers Head Coach John Kamau has been named the head coach for the Kenya Under-20 national team.
Kamau will be on his second stint as the team’s coach and will be assisted by former Western Stima assistant coach Hesbon Nyabinge.
The duo has no time to settle in as they are required to prepare the team for the 2017 Africa U20 Cup of Nations qualifiers with Kenya set to meet Sudan in the first leg first round slated for Friday 1 April in Khartoum.
Kamau led Kenya to the final of the 2013 COSAFA U20 Cup losing to South Africa in the final played in Lesotho.
In 2011, he guided Thika United to clinch the inaugural Kenyan Premier League (KPL) U19 title and upon his promotion from the junior team thereafter, helped Thika reach the final of the 2013 KPL Top 8 final losing to Tusker FC on post match penalties after a two-all draw in normal time.
For Nyabinge, he brings in a youthful experience having helped Western Stima win the 2013 KPL U19 edition. He has formerly coached Kakamega Homeboyz, Kakamega High School West Kenya Sugar FC, Champasak United and Mukumu Boys.
