Arsenal youngster Alex Iwobi is nursing big dreams with the Super Eagles after finally taking his bow with the Nigeria national team last Thursday in the friendly against the Leopards of DR Congo.
In an interview with BBC Sports, Iwobi stated that he was quite thrilled to don the green and white jersey of Nigeria and he is ready to work hard to win more caps for himself and more importantly trophies in the days ahead.
“My target is to get as many call-ups as I can, get as many games as I can and win many trophies with Nigeria.” The 19 year old who just signed a long-term contract with the Gunners stated.
Looking back to his maiden outing with the Eagles, Iwobi said it was pleasing for him even though it ended in a 2-0 defeat for the three-time African champions.
“It was an honour to represent my country, I was just buzzing to get on for the last half hour and I was excited,” Iwobi enthused
“I got a few touches and I was excited, even though we lost it felt like I won but I enjoyed the moment.”
A nephew to former Nigeria Captain Austin Okocha, Iwobi said he hopes to follow the steps of his uncle and equally do great things in the colours of Nigeria.
