Ahead of the Premier League opener against Southampton, Watford have officially announced squad numbers for the season and have handed new signing Isaac Success the number 10 Jersey while Odion Ighalo retained his 24 shirt.
Success had worn the number 12 jersey in training on a number of occasions rising speculations that he will wear that for the new season but surprisingly no player was assigned that shirt for the new campaign.
The Nigeria Under-20 international joined Watford for a club record £12.5m after winning Granada’s player of the season in his final year in Spain and has immediately gained the trust of the Hornets new boss Walter Mazzarri who is set to hand him a premier league debut on Saturday.
Success revealed some weeks back that he is working hard with new Watford Coach Walter Mazzarri ahead of the start of the new season.
“I’ve worked with him [Mazzarri] a lot already during my first two weeks and he’s very good, both as a coach and a person,” the Nigerian Under-20 international told Watford’s official website
“You can tell that from the work that we’ve done on the training pitch. He knows what we need to do to be successful, and he’s shown that at the clubs he’s worked with before Watford,” the club-record signing added.
He continued: “I’ve been working really hard at the training ground but it’s been very enjoyable, and I know the work I’m doing now will pay off when the season starts.
“The fitness people here are great, they’re always pushing me, which is just what every player needs to be ready for a new season.
“I got 15 or 20 minutes in the first two friendlies [at Woking and Stevenage], which was good, and to play an hour for the Under-21 team yesterday was really important for my fitness.”
However, Odion Ighalo who was Watford’s topscorer last season with 17 goals in all competitions retained his number 24 Jersey for the club.
Ighalo and Success are expected to play some part in the league opener against Southampton at the Saint Mary’s tomorrow.
