Kenyan international Victor Wanyama had an impressive outing with his new club Tottenham Hotspurs in the International Champions Cup tournament opening game against Italian giants Juventus in Melbourne, on Tuesday 26 July, though it ended in a 1 – 2 defeat.
Wanyama got the assist that released Erik Lamela to score the only goal for the North London side, as he featured in the entire game. He admits it was tough against the Italian champions, though they were undone by a shaky start as the Italians scored both goals in the opening 15 minutes.
Wanyama’s side will still play Spanish side Atletico Madrid at the tournament, then in a later friendly match take on Italian side, Inter Milan and the midfielder is looking forward to much better spoils and a good season.
“It was a tough game against Juventus. We started a little shaky but as the game went on, we improved. Atletico Madrid is another tough test for us so hopefully we’ll recover well and then come back again and show what we can do. It’s going well for me so far.
“The lads have been great and I’m looking forward to a good season,” he told the club’s official website, tottenhamhotspur.com.
