Super Eagles goalkeeper Carl Ikeme says he is looking forward to returning to the Nigeria set-up after missing the last game against Egypt due to injury.
Ikeme, 29, is one of three goalkeepers called up for the international friendly games against Mali and Luxembourg this month and he is says he is looking forward to joining up with the team again.
“We have two games in Paris against Mali and in Luxembourg over the next week and am looking forward to joining up with the team and hopefully getting two good results,” he was quoted on his club’s website.
He also said playing for Nigeria is something he loves doing, given the atmosphere and love he gets from the fans.
“Playing for Nigeria is something I love doing, in particular with the atmosphere and the love you get from the fans.”
Ikeme had been called to the team when the future of former Nigeria captain Vincent Enyeama was up in the air, and he has since gone on to establish himself as the country’s number one and he admits it was a bit of a surprise to him given that he wasn’t playing for his club as at when he was first called to the team.
“The timing of the Nigeria call-up was out of the blue a little bit. I wasn’t playing for Wolves at the time so it was a welcome distraction.
“I have played seven times for them so far and that has been another highlight of the season as well as getting back in and making a lot of Wolves appearances.”
