Manchester City manager Manuel Pellegrini has lavished praise on hat-trick hero Kelechi Iheanacho following his man-of-the-match performance in the 4-0 win against Aston Villa.
The win takes the Citizens into the fifth round of the competition but while fans of the Etihad side dance away at the emergence of a new pointman for the team, the manager is not surprised as he long knew the Nigerian’s quality.
At the summer, Pellegrini allowed Edin Dzeko and Stevan Jovetic leave the club for Roma and Inter Milan respectively but was vindicated by that decision by the class of Iheancho who has won over the Etihad fans and they now prefer seeing him play alongside Sergio Aguero rather than Wilfred Bony who cost the club 30milion pounds.
Speaking after the the game to Skysports, Manchester City manager Manuel Pellegrini boosted: “I’m very happy. Kelechi is a very good young player. We let Stevan Jovetic and Edin Dzeko go because I see Kelechi every day and know what he can do.
Pellegrini was pleased with the overrall performance of his side in the emphatic FA Cup win and praise the players for putting in a good shift on the night.
“Bacary Sagna played well at centre-back, he didn’t make any mistakes, and Willy Caballero was solid in goal.”
The hat-trick against Aston Villa were Iheancho’s first for Manchester City since he joined them in 2013 after a very successful Under-17 World Cup where he emerged as the best player after leading Nigeria to the title.
