Manchester City manager Manuel Pellegrini has declared Kelechi Iheanacho fit to face Newcastle United in a Premier League clash on Saturday.
The young Nigerian has been out injured for weeks but Pellegrini is happy to welcome back Iheanacho, who scored a last-gasp winner against Crystal Palace in incidentally City’s last Premier League win.
The City manager however still has a lengthy injury list as he announced ahead of the clash.
“Kompany, Clichy, Delph, Nasri and Toure are injured,” Pellegrini told his pre-match press conference before announcing the good news.
“Mangala is on the squad list and so are Kelechi (Iheanacho) and Bony. “Kompany’s calf is still injured – we’ll see if he’s fit after the international break. The calf is a difficult muscle.”
Pellegrini’s side lost their last two league matches – at home to West Ham and away to Tottenham – after appearing to be running away with the title following five straight wins.
The Chilean has seen his team drop to second place, but he backs them to bounce back on Saturday. “On Wednesday we showed we have a strong team with strong character in Europe. It’s not easy to win from a goal down,” he said.
“We are not thinking of the top of the table at this moment – just to play well and win. It’s important to be top in May. “Tomorrow we have a tough game against Newcastle. They played very well against Chelsea and here in Manchester against United.”
