The Democratic Republic of Congo wrapped up an impressive show at the fourth edition of the African Nations Championship (CHAN) with a 3 – 0 win over Mali to claim their second CHAN title on Sunday 7 February.
The man who was the architect of the win, Florent Ibenge, the coach, was over the moon after the win, terming it a massive confidence boost to the team and also a big motivator.
He had particular praise for the Congolese league, given all the players feature in the local league
“I am very proud of the team and the achievement; this win gives us a lot of confidence and motivation going forward. Given we also have TP Mazembe as the African champions shows we have a very strong league.
“We are very proud to have won our second CHAN title because we worked very hard for it throughout the tournament, starting from the first match,” he said.
The coach will be looking to replicate the good form the team showed in the 2017 African Cup of Nations (AFCON) qualifiers.
